The ORiNOCO Active Ethernet splitter by Agere Systems (formerly Lucent) is designed to replace the standard A/C power adapter in the AP1000. The splitter is used with the PoE (Power over Ethernet) option. After replacing the standard power adapter in the AP1000, the splitter separates the Ethernet and the power, and provides power to cables that connect to the access point. One splitter per AP1000 is required when using the PoE option. The major benefit of the PoE function is that you do not need to have a 120VAC outlet to power the access point.
